President of Nicolet College
Position Description

  

In support of the mission and the vision, the president serves the following people and performs the following functions:

 

People Served: Students and Other Learners

 

Functions:

 

  • Work with local citizens, local government officials, state board members, state board staff, state government divisions, the governor, state representatives, federal agencies, federal representatives, the Presidents Association, the District Boards Association (DBA), and others to secure and ensure funding for the college, specifically to ensure financial support for the delivery of quality educational offerings.
  • Work with staff to ensure that quality educational opportunities are being delivered and will continue to be delivered.
  • Work with Nicolet College Foundation Board, with foundation staff and other Nicolet staff, and with local citizens to raise money for student scholarships and to raise money to support the work of the college.

 

Examples:

 

  • Ensure continued state financial support for Nicolet's University Transfer Program by engaging in regular communication with local legislators, the Wisconsin Technical College System President, the DBA Executive Director, and others.
  • Secure matching funds for A Day For Nicolet from employers and other donors.

 

 

People Served: District Taxpayers, District Employers, District Citizens, Local Government Officials

 

Functions:

 

  • Work to build and maintain positive relationships with the above people and to provide them with information about the work of the college and about the benefits the college brings to Northern Wisconsin citizens and communities in order to ensure that these people will continue to support the college.
  • Work to identify the learning needs of the above people and work in partnership with them to meet their learning needs.
  • Work to create a positive image of the college with the above people.

 

Examples:

 

  • Participate in the work of economic development organizations, such as Grow North and Oneida County Economic Development Corporation.
  • Work directly with citizen taxpayers groups to provide information about Nicolet, to address their concerns, and to seek their support.

 

 

People Served: Nicolet College Staff

 

Functions:

 

  • Work to ensure that financial resources and other resources are secured in order to provide staff with fair compensation, fair benefits, and good working conditions.
  • Work to ensure that staff will have the financial resources and other resources to enable them to do their work effectively.
  • Work to support staff in achievement of their short-term and long-term professional goals.
  • Work to create a one-team approach to achievement of the college mission and fulfillment of the college vision.
Examples:

 

  • Include staff from all categories (administration, support staff, executive support staff, faculty, and facilities staff) as members and participants in the President's Leadership Team.
  • Provide funding in the Nicolet budget for specific professional development activities which will meet the learning goals of individual staff members and which align with goals of the college.

 

People Served: Nicolet College Board

 

Functions:

 

  • Work with the board to support and achieve a common college mission, to support and realize a common college vision, and to support and achieve common college goals and board goals.
  • Provide the board with the information they need to fulfill their responsibilities.

 

Examples:

 

  • Seek to create open dialog with the board members so that concerns can be raised and addressed in a timely manner and opportunities identified by board members can be acted upon in a timely manner.
  • Provide the board with regular updates and invite board suggestions on activities related to forward movement on the college's strategic goals.

 

 

People served: President's Leadership Team

 

Functions:

 

  • Work with the team to support and achieve the college mission, to support and realize the college vision, and to support and achieve the college goals.
  • Support team members and encourage them to support each other.
  • Identify what team members need from the president in order to perform their functions and work to meet those needs.

 

Examples:

 

  • Meet on an almost daily basis with the administrative members of the President's Leadership Team to ensure that we are making progress on goals and to provide them with assistance in overcoming any barriers they are encountering.
  • Ensure that at meetings of the President's Leadership Team the voices of non-administrative members are heard and that their opinions and suggestions are taken into account.

 

People Served: Nicolet College Foundation Board and Staff

 

Functions:

 

  • Work with the foundation board and staff to support and achieve a common foundation mission and to support and achieve common foundation goals.

 

Examples:

 

  • As time permits, attend the regular meetings of the Nicolet College Foundation Board.
  • Communicate regularly with foundation staff about prospects for support of the college; build relationships with donors and potential donors.

 

 

Other Constituencies:


Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Presidents Association, WTCS District Boards Association, WTCS State Board, WTCS State President, WTCS State Board Staff

 

Functions:

 

  • Build and maintain positive relations with all of the above constituencies to ensure their solid and continuing support for Nicolet College and for the Nicolet College mission.
  • Work with all of the above constituencies to achieve common goals.

 

Examples:

 

  • Regularly attend and participate in meetings of the Presidents' Association, the WTCS State Board, and the District Boards Association, as time permits.
  • Serve on the Executive Committee of the Presidents' Association and serve on state-wide committees such as JACAP (the Joint Committee on Academic Placement - a joint committee of the WTCS and the University of Wisconsin System).

 

WTCS Colleges, District K-12 Schools, the University of Wisconsin System, and other colleges and universities

 

Functions:

 

  • Work with above constituencies to provide more educational opportunities for learners in the Nicolet district and for learners elsewhere.
  •  

Examples:

 

  • Serve on the board of the Nicolet Distance Education Network (NDEN) with the administrators of several K-12 school districts.
  • Work to increase collaboration through participation in a group which includes the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Chancellor, the Dean of the UW College-Marathon County, the Dean of the UW College-Barron County, and the Presidents of Northcentral Technical College and Mid-State Technical College.
