This unique appreciation class will focus on vintage linens, buttons, sewing notions and jewelry. Session one will include a discussion of antique buttons and sewing collectibles. The instructor will share her extensive button collection and the knowledge that comes with years of collecting. Learn about sewing tools from the past, and what makes them collectible today. Session two will focus on vintage linens and jewelry. Learn how to clean, care for, and preserve these treasures. Now here's a Northwoods basket if ever there was one! This free-form pine needle basket will be woven around an antler. The antler will dictate the final shape of the basket. Quillwork embroidery is perhaps the oldest decorative art form practiced by many cultures throughout the world. In this course you will learn how to gather, store, and use porcupine quills to embroider on birch bark. The techniques can be used to create frames, wall hangings, or to embellish baskets. We'll take the basic log cabin pattern and give it movement. In this class you will start out with basic rotary strip cutting techniques. You'll learn time saving steps by using the easy strip cutting tool and quick piecing techniques. This same method can be used on many strip based patterns to change the look and add movement.
