In this full day workshop, we will combine a hike through a northern forest at peak color with creating artwork using the needle felt-making technique. We will use needles and dyed wool to "paint" with fibers and create small landscapes, geometric designs, and autumn inspired pieces both functional and artistic. If you have ever wanted to learn felt-making, or wanted to try new ideas, this is a perfect opportunity for all levels of experience. Hiking will be over moderate terrain on a trail for about three miles. Bring a sketchbook, lunch and outdoor weather gear. A $15 material fee will be paid to the instructor at the class session. 60-806-61500

Class #23330
In this day long workshop, we will begin with a winter walk, noting design elements and color in the stark landscape of November. As we hike through the forest, we will discuss the ways the landscape can be used to create artistic hand-felted pieces. We will then begin to use the needle felting technique to create small landscapes and other projects. Felt-making is very "user-friendly" and no experience is necessary. If there is snow, we will snowshoe; otherwise bring appropriate gear for the weather, lunch, and a sketchbook. $15 materialfee will be paid to the instructor at the class session. 60-806-61500

Class #23335
Join us for a day of creating stories inspired by the Northwoods in winter time, accompanied by a delicious gourmet lunch. Bright skies, green pines, possible snow in the air, the zigzagging patterns of animal tracks, the old log cabins that harbor memories of distant times, the invisible footprints of lumbermen, explorers, and native peoples . . . we will bring all these to life on the page and share our finished pieces with each other before the end of the day. This class is open to all levels, from beginners to more experienced writers who want their imagination stirred. We will start with some warm-up exercises, considering different aspects of creative writing such as characterization, voice, viewpoint and setting before moving onto developing existing skills and learning new techniques such as capturing imagery in words, audience consideration and how to "hook" the reader. In addition to a structured workshop that will allow participants to give and receive constructive feedback, there will also be plenty of opportunity for writing in solitude.
A selection of freshly prepared gourmet foods for a wholesome, healthy andhearty lunch will be made available by Brad Davis. 60-809-64002
