As a member of the healthcare team, the surgical technologist provides patient care before, during and after surgery having primary responsibilities for maintaining the sterile field. These specific responsibilities are performed in an operating room. The surgical technologist works closely with the operating nurses and surgeon. Surgical technologists work long hours and are on call during week days and weekends.
Do you have what it takes to become a surgical technologist?

Functional abilities include standing for long periods of time, manual dexterity and fine motor coordination, and physical strength of at least #50 pounds (push, pull or lift).
What is the program like at Nicolet College?
Nicolet Area Technical College (NATC) offers its Surgical Technologist program in cooperation with NorthCentral Technical College (NTC). As a student in the surgical technologist program you will attend live interactive TV classes sent from NTC to NATC for the core surgical technologist courses. General education courses may be taken at Nicolet. Students are expected to attend clinical during evening, weekend and summer hours. Currently, our surgical technologist lab is at Eagle River Memorial Hospital, Eagle River, WI. Students travel to Eagle River approximately 1-2 afternoons per week their first semester of classes.
Nicolet College admits 6-9 students into the Surgical Technologist program every January. The Surgical Technologist program is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Admission is limited due to availability of clinical sites to meet accreditation standards.
What happens after graduation?
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the entry-level certification exam administered by CAAHEP and are often employed in such settings as clinics or hospitals as scrub surgical technologist, circulating surgical technologist, second assisting technologist or central supply technician.
Are good jobs available?
