How long is the program?
The program is an associate degree level, 2-year, 70 credit degree. It should be noted however, that because this is a part time/shared program, chances are that it will take significantly longer to complete this degree. Three years is a realistic timeline, provided prerequisites are completed in a timely and sequential manner. Be aware that FVTC offers their classes over ITV on revolving basis. It is entirely possible that you may have to wait for certain classes.
Are classes at Nicolet, or FVTC?
The Fire Protection core classes are at Nicolet College, taught by FVTC instructors via interactive television (ITV) and/or the internet. The general education classes are taught by Nicolet College instructors through a combination of traditional classroom, video, and internet.
Is there a wait list?
The fire protection program is a popular program, however, in most cases students can start taking program classes once Admissions requirements are met.
What class should I start with?
Although not a core Fire Protection class, Fire Fighter 1 is a prerequisite for most of the core Fire Protection classes. It is strongly recommended that you get this certification ASAP, so that you can start taking core Fire Protection classes. For availability and additional information on Fire Fighter 1 training, please call 365-4533.
Are classes held during the day, or evening?
Core Fire Protection classes are typically offered evenings through ITV. Traditional classroom general education classes are offered both in the evening and during the day at Nicolet College. Many of these gen. ed. classes are also offered on-line.
Are there degree options beyond an associate degree?
Yes, FVTC recently signed an articulation agreement (transfer of all Associate Degree Fire Protection classes) with the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, which will lead to a bachelor's degree in Fire and Emergency Response Management.
Where do I apply for Financial Aid?
You will apply for financial aid through FVTC. They are the degree granting institution, therefore you must go through them for aid. You can however pick up paperwork and receive assistance from Nicolet’s Financial Aid Advisors. For additional Financial Aid questions, please call 365-4423.
