The two top leaders of higher education in Wisconsin will meet at Nicolet College Monday, July 21, for a public conversation about the goals, advances, and collaborations of the state's public colleges and universities.
Kevin Reilly, president of the University of Wisconsin System, and Dan Clancy, president of the Wisconsin Technical College System, will discuss a variety of topics, including how the state's two preeminent college and university systems work together to the benefit of Wisconsin residents.
The public is invited to the event, which will start at 5 p.m. in the Nicolet College Theatre. A reception will follow the conversation.
"This is a great opportunity for area residents to hear first-hand about the technical college and UW systems and to see how the two are working together to improve the quality of life for residents not just in the Northwoods but across the state," said Nicolet College President Adrian Lorbetske. "Both systems are vital to stimulating Wisconsin's economy and shaping the state's economic future."
Nicolet has a growing history of partnership with the UW system, the most notable of which is the increasing number of options for Northwoods residents to earn bachelor's degrees by starting at Nicolet and finishing at a UW university. This includes the option of earning a four-year degree without having to move from the Northwoods.
As leader of the UW System, Reilly presides over 13 universities, 13 freshman-sophomore UW Colleges, and the statewide UW Extension which together serve 170,000 students. Annually, the UW System reaches more than a million citizens through its campuses, outreach work, broadcasting arm, and continuing education programs.
Clancy oversees the 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System, which includes Nicolet. Collectively, the tech system offers more than 300 different academic programs. Annually, one out of every nine adults in Wisconsin receives education from a state technical college. In the Northwoods, about 10,000 people a year utilize some aspect of Nicolet College.
The Nicolet College Theatre is in the Learning Resources Center on the Rhinelander campus, which is located one mile south of the city just off of Hwy. G.
